IWC meeting ends in failure

Norway lifts self-imposed export ban on whale products

High North Web News (08 January 2001): The Norwegian government today announced the lifting of the self-imposed export ban on minke whale products. (more)

 

US will not impose trade sanctions on Japan

High North Web News (08 January 2001): The US President Bill Clinton has decided not to impose trade sanctions against Japan for expanding its whaling program to include sperm and Bryde's whales. (more)

 

Norway: Further decrease in whaling quota

High North Web News (01 Desember 2000): For the second year in row, Norway has decreased the minke whale quota, to 549 animals in 2001 While the quota was 753 in 1999, it was reduced to 655 minke whales this year. Only 487 animals were caught this year, mainly due to poor domestic management and bad weather conditions. (more)

 

Japan’s whale fleet returns to port

High North Web News (20 September 2000): Japan’s whale research vessels are scheduled to return to port tomorrow from their research in the northwestern Pacific. A total of 40 minke, 43 Bryde’s and 5 sperm whales were taken, according to a media release today from the Institue of Cetacean Research. (more)
