I am the kind of guy who seeks excitement. When I was unemployed ... I began using drugs. Now I get my
need for excitement satisfied by my work in an overseas shipping company, Norwegian Bjørn Ursfjord told the
court while wearing his black field jacket with Sea Shepherd in white letters on the back. Ursfjord fled from
Norway when things began to get hot. He told the press that he sought asylum as a political refugee in Australia
because of Norway’s whaling. He signed on as mate on one of Sea Shepherd’s ships. Last year he was extradited
from the UK and on February 16, he was found guilty of theft, receiving stolen property, forgery and drug abuse
by Gulating magistrates court. He was sentenced to one year’s imprisonment.
In Sea Shepherd’s newsletter, Sea Shepherd Log , he was pronounced Crew Member of the Year (1994). Sea
Shepherd claims that Ursfjord was tried for high treason - and arrested because of his involvement with their
organisation. Ursfjord has now served his sentence and is back in service with Sea Shepherd.
