On July 7, Greenpeace activists cut loose a minke whale that had been harpooned in the North Sea by the Norwegian combined fishing and whaling boat, “Senet”. The whalers were about to put the animal down with a rifle. “What the activists actually achieved was to prolong the animal’s suffering,” said Eva Egeberg, veterinary surgeon and state inspector on board, to the newspaper VG. She said that the whale was seriously wounded and would die.
