The TRansport of Organic Pollutants from South to North
A Threat to Human Beings
and Polar Bears
Questions are being raised as to whether the stranding of
whales comes as a result of behavioural dysfunction or disease caused by
pollution. In this case, where 12 sperm whales stranded at Rømø
in Denmark in 1996, scientists found moderate amounts of organic pollutants
in the animals and concluded that these were not the cause of the strandings.
