Ringed Seal (Phoca hispida)

Distribution: Ubiquitous in the ice-covered seas of the entire Northern Hemisphere, as far north as the North Pole.

Population and Catches: The total population is difficult to estimate due to vast parts of its range not having been surveyed, but a crude estimate of 2.5 million has been suggested as a minimum. About 100,000 are taken annually by Inuit in Greenland and Canada.
