Narwhal (Monodon monoceros)

 

Distribution: Arctic waters of the North Atlantic.

Population and Catches: The Canada-Greenland population is estimated at 20-30,000. The size of the East Greenland-Spitsbergen population is unknown, but is unlikely to exceed the Baffin Bay-Davis Strait population. Hunted by Inuit in Canada and Greenland, with both harvests combined totalling some 800 annually.
