Bearded Seal (Erignathus barbatus)

 

Distribution: Arctic waters across the North Atlantic north of northern Newfoundland/Labrador, south Greenland, north Iceland, Spitsbergen, and the Barents Sea.

Population and Catches: For some areas crude estimates have been published, indicating that bearded seals should be counted in the hundreds of thousands. Local subsistence use in Canada, Greenland and Russia.
