U.S. citizen Rodney A. Coronado in collaboration with Briton David Howitt, sank three whaling vessels in Reykjavik, Iceland in November 1986. Sea Shepherd claimed responsibility for the act. In September this year, Coronado was arrested by the FBI after being under cover since he was indicted on July 16, 1993 for his role in an attack on a Mitchigan State University research laboratory which destroyed 32 years of medical research data and caused $125,000 worth of damage. The Animal Liberation Front claimed responsibility for this act. Among the charges handed down against Mr. Coronado are the use of an unregistered explosive device, theft and inter-state arson. Under the 1992 Animal Enterprise Protection Act, he may face life imprisonment.
